GROWING TOGETHER

TOGETHER WE CAN

MAKE A CHANGE

UNCSW 62:
Rural Women & Girls
Priority Theme:

Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equity and the empowerment of rural women and girls.

Compare gender based violence and opportunities from your perspective and from the perspective of girls in rural areas.

Review Theme:

Participation in and access of women to the media, and information and communications technologies and their impact on and use as an instrument for the advancement and empowerment of women.

What does empowerment and opportunity do for women? How can you empower those around you?
The Role of Faith:

Each month we meet or reclaim a sister from Scripture who can serve as an example of women working with God to make changes for the good of all.

How can you prepare for New York and the UNCSW? What do you hope to get out of the experience?

Girls In Real Life (GIRL) is a group high school girls and their mothers. This group allows us to expand our views on the world and our understanding of the issues that girls face in a safe community of peers and mentors. In March 2018 we will travel to New York City for the 62nd United Nations Commision on the Status of Women (UNCSW) and will come back ready to bring light on these issues to our local communities.

GIRLs first started in 2012 in Fredericksburg at Saint George's Episcopal Church with just five girls and their moms. It led to a New York trip, a local radio show, and an ever-expanding group to teach and empower. Now, GIRLs continues at Saint George's as Youth in Global Community, and begins at Saint Timothy's Episcopal Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.

WHO ARE WE

The symbol of our group, the Hibiscus flower, is a symbol of delicate beauty, unity and peace.
